The Company advises that the following amendment has been made to the
announcement released on 20 September 2001 at 4.56pm under RNS number 3813K.

3,558,955 units of Equities Index Unsecured Loan Stock now remain in issue,
not 4,081,530 as previously advised.

British Empire Securities and General Trust plc announces the purchase today
(20 September 2001) of 50,000 units of Equities Index Unsecured Loan Stock
2013 for cancellation at £2.07p per unit.

Following the above purchase for cancellation, 3,558,955 units of Equities
Index Unsecured Loan Stock will remain in issue.
