BRITISH EMPIRE SECURITIES AND GENERAL TRUST PLC

British Empire Securities and General Trust plc announces that on Tuesday 25
April 2006 it bought back 69,267 units of its Equities Index Unsecured Loan
Stock 2013 for cancellation.  The purchase price paid was £2.755 per unit and
following this purchase there are 2,837,000 units of the Equities Index
Unsecured Loan Stock still in issue.
