AVIVA APPOINTS NEW CEO FOR EUROPE
Aviva, the international savings, investments and insurance group, has appointed
Andrea Moneta as CEO, Aviva Europe. Andrea is currently managing director of
Dubai Financial Group and will join Aviva on 1 July. He will be a member of
Aviva's group executive committee, reporting directly to group chief executive
Andrew Moss.
Andrea has extensive experience in the European financial services arena.
Before joining Dubai Financial Group, he spent seven years at UniCredit, where
he held a number of roles including Group Chief Financial Officer and head of
the Private & Asset Management Division. He was head of the New Europe Division
of UniCredit, with responsibility for operations in ten Central European
markets, before leading the integration of UniCredit and HVB/BA-CA - one of
Europe's largest ever banking mergers. Having successfully completed that
merger, Andrea was given additional responsibility for the enlarged banking
business in Central and Eastern Europe, with operations in 18 countries.
Prior to joining UniCredit, Andrea worked as head of strategic planning at the
European Central Bank in Frankfurt. He began his career at Andersen Consulting,
Financial Services.
Aviva's European operations are the biggest contributor to the group's operating
profit. The company has a presence in 15 countries across Europe, selling
long-term savings, investment and general insurance products through a range of
distribution channels, with a particular strength in bancassurance. In 2007,
bancassurance accounted for 51% of Aviva's European sales.
Andrew Moss, group chief executive of Aviva, commented: 'Andrea has an enviable
understanding of the European financial services market. He has an excellent
track record of developing and running successful businesses across Continental
and Central and Eastern Europe and the Middle East. At UniCredit he played a
leading role in the company's international expansion, making it a leading force
in European banking.
'Andrea's appointment completes the formation of my new executive team and he
will play a key part in delivering our 'One Aviva, twice the value' vision,
taking our European business to the next stage of its growth and development.
His understanding of the value of strong insurance and banking partnerships from
a partner's perspective will be invaluable in the further development of our
already strong bancassurance capability.'
