Norwich Union plc
('Norwich Union')
Outcome of Extraordinary General Meeting
The Board of CGU announces that, at an Extraordinary General Meeting held
today, the resolutions to approve the proposed merger with Norwich Union (the
'Merger') and related matters including the proposed change of name to CGNU
plc were duly passed.
The Merger is conditional on certain regulatory and other approvals including
the sanction of the Court. The Merger and the change of name are expected to
become effective by early June 2000.
Commenting on the result Pehr Gyllenhammar, Chairman said:
'We are of course delighted that shareholders have approved the Merger. This
paves the way for us to create a leading European insurance group. We now
look forward to starting the important task of integrating the two
businesses.'
