Additional $22.3m order from US Department of Defense for M50 mask filters and spares
Under a current spare parts contract with the United States Department of Defense (DoD), Avon has been awarded an additional order totaling $22.342m. This includes over 700,000 filters for delivery in the period to August 2010. These spares and filters will support the issue into service by the DoD of the new M50 mask systems, of which over 200,000 have already been delivered by Avon under its 10 year sole source contract.
Peter Slabbert, Chief Executive, commented 'Securing this additional award with the DoD reinforces Avon's position as a key supplier to the US armed forces and gives us greater visibility of revenues for our next financial year'.
In addition Avon announced on 28 August 2008 that our US based subsidiary Avon Engineered Fabrications, Inc. had won a new five year contract for the supply of 210,000 gallon fuel storage tanks for use by the US Army. Deliveries against an initial order value of $10m commenced in March 2009 and we have now received additional orders of $2.4m against this contract.
