AVON RUBBER PLC 17 September 1999 DISPOSAL OF FABRICATIONS BUSINESS Avon Rubber p.l.c. announces that it has agreed, subject to contract, the sale of its fabrications business to Checkmate UK Limited. The consideration for this disposal is £700,000 in cash for the assets employed including stock, the latter subject to an adjustment based on stock values at completion. The fabrications business is a part of Avon's Technical Products Division and manufactures a range of products using fabric reinforced rubber, including hovercraft skirts, diving suits and plugs used in jet aircraft engines. The prospective purchasers have indicated that they wish to relocate the business, complete with its current employees, to premises within the Wiltshire area. Checkmate, through Air Cushion in Southampton, have since the early 1970's developed substantial experience in the manufacture of hovercraft skirts and in specialist rubber engineering. The disposal will enable Avon Rubber's Technical Products Division to concentrate on business activities that support its strategy of long term sustainable growth.
