Babcock International Group PLC
£55 million contract for 'Jackal' vehicles
Babcock International Group PLC (Babcock) confirms the award of the contract to produce around a further 200 Jackal type patrol vehicles. As reported at the time of the Pre-close Trading Statement on 31 March 2009, the contract is worth in the order of £55 million and provides a further underpin to the order book which is currently valued in excess of £5.5 billion.
Babcock has already started production of the vehicles in response to the Ministry of Defence's (MoD) latest Urgent Operational Requirement (UOR). The majority of these are scheduled for delivery in 2009 to support operations in Afghanistan. To date, more than 200 Jackals have been delivered to the armed forces.
Babcock has formed an alliance with Supacat, the original design authority, who are the prime contractor with the MoD. Babcock will take responsibility for the detailed production planning, purchasing and manufacture of the vehicles at Devonport.
