He will be invited to sit on the Audit and Remuneration Committees of the Board. Until his retirement from the Royal Navy in late 2002, Sir Nigel was First Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Staff. Under the rules on the acceptance of outside appointments by Crown Servants, Admiral Essenhigh applied for permission to accept this appointment. The Prime Minister, on the advice of the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments, approved the application subject only to the automatic three months waiting period which applies at his rank.
