Board Appointment and Succession at
Babcock International Group PLC
The Board of Babcock International Group announce the appointment of Mr.Gordon
Campbell (formerly Chief Executive of Courtaulds plc)to succeed Dr John
Parker, as executive Chairman of Babcock with effect from January 2001. Dr.
John Parker has recently been appointed as Chairman designate of the Lattice
Group PLC (due to be demerged from BG plc in late October 2000).
Gordon Campbell will join the Board of Babcock in October 2000, initially
assuming the role of Chief Executive until he succeeds Dr. John Parker as
Chairman in January 2001, when the current round of strategic initiatives,
announced at the Annual General Meeting on 28th July 2000, (the return of £30m
of cash to shareholders and proposed disposal of BMH Division) are planned to
be substantially completed. Lord Hesketh as non-executive Deputy Chairman
remains the senior non-executive director.
Commenting on the appointment, Dr. John Parker said:
'We are delighted to welcome Gordon Campbell, who is a seasoned and highly
experienced board room executive, to succeed me. Babcock's transformation to a
focused, specialist services group is now well advanced. We have substantial
cash resources and a strong management team. The time is now right
for a new phase of leadership to drive the Group forward.'
Gordon Campbell said : 'I am extremely pleased to be joining Babcock at this
watershed in their strategic development and I am excited at the prospect of
leading the Company through a period of renewed growth.'

Gordon Campbell is a Cambridge University Engineering graduate, a Fellow of
the Royal Academy of Engineering and a former President of the Institution of
Chemical Engineers. He held a variety of executive positions in sales,
production, accountancy and general management within the Courtaulds Group
after joining Courtaulds Research in 1968.
Between 1981 and 1985 he was Chief Executive of Courtaulds Chemicals and then
between 1985 and 1987 he was Managing Director of Saiccor (Pty) Ltd., South
Africa, he joined the Courtaulds main Board in 1987; Gordon became Deputy
Chief Executive in 1994 and Group Chief Executive in 1996. He was Chairman of
the Acordis Group following the sale of Courtaulds plc in July 1998 until
December 1999. He has recently been appointed a non-executive director of
British Nuclear Fuels Ltd ('BNFL').
