APPOINTMENT OF DIRECTOR - THE RT. HON. MICHAEL PORTILLO M.P.

BAE SYSTEMS plc announces the appointment of Michael Portillo to the Board of
Directors with effect from today; he will serve in a non-executive capacity. Mr
Portillo was a member of the UK government between 1986 and 1997 during which
time he held the offices of Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Secretary of State
for Employment and Secretary of State for Defence. He is the Member of
Parliament for Kensington and Chelsea.

Mr Portillo has no details to disclose under paragraph 6.F.2(b) to (g) of The
Listing Rules.
