Appointment of Simon Somerville as Non-executive Director of the Company.

The Board of Baillie Gifford Shin Nippon PLC is pleased to announce the appointment of Simon Somerville as Non-executive Director of the Company with immediate effect.

Simon Somerville, who is 43, has over 20 years' experience in Japanese and Asian equities.  He is currently Co-head of Asian Equities and Head of all Japanese investments for Jupiter Asset Management.

The Chairman of Baillie Gifford Shin Nippon PLC, Barry Rose, commented:

"My fellow Directors and I are delighted to welcome Simon to the Board.  We believe that we have appointed an individual with extensive and current Japanese investment experience, who will maintain the Board's depth and breadth".

The appointment of Mr Somerville falls to be ratified by shareholders at the Annual General Meeting of the Company to be held in 2011.

Mr Somerville is a director of Jupiter Asset Management Limited. There is no other information required to be disclosed under section 9.6.13 of the Listing Rules.
