On 21 August 2003, Mr P J L Zinkin, a director of the Company, exercised matured
options over 1,380 50p Ordinary Shares in the Company that were held under the
Company's Savings Related Share Option Scheme, having been granted on 22 May
1998.  The exercise price was 120p per 50p Ordinary Share.

Following this transaction, Mr Zinkin holds 26,380 50p Ordinary Shares in the
Company, 325 Cumulative Convertible Redeemable Preference Shares of 1p each in
the Company, and options over a total of 8,546 50p Ordinary Shares in the
Company.
