Directorate Change

Balfour Beatty PLC 08 October 2003 BALFOUR BEATTY PLC Balfour Beatty, the international engineering, construction and services group, announces today that executive director, Malcolm Eckersall, has resigned from the Board and is to leave the company with effect from 31 October, by mutual agreement. Since joining the Group in 2000, he has had responsibility for a number of businesses, diverse in terms of both geography and discipline. Over the last 18 months, new managing directors have been appointed in many of these businesses, most notably Balfour Beatty Inc, the Group's $1 billion US business, the £500 million sales Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering and the £200 million Balfour Beatty Utilities, a business created by the 2002 merger of Kennedys and Kentons, both recently acquired. With these senior appointees now well-established, Malcolm Eckersall will hand over responsibility for the Group's UK civil engineering companies to Alistair Wivell, who is Group Managing Director responsible for the Group's UK construction sector. The other businesses for which he has been responsible will now report directly to Ian Tyler, Chief Operating Officer. Malcolm Eckersall will leave the Group with the Board's gratitude for his contribution over the last three years and with every good wish for the future.
