Balfour Beatty plc ('the Company') received notice on 23 June 2008 from Citibank, N.A. London Branch, on behalf of Standard Life Investments Limited ('Standard Life') that Standard Life now hold 42,807,152 ordinary shares in the Company, representing 8.98% of the total voting rights of the Company.

Of the 42,807,152 ordinary shares, the Company has been advised that 22,648,092 (4.75%) comprise a direct interest in the Company's total voting rights and that 20,159,060 (4.23%) comprise an indirect interest in the Company's total voting rights.
