Balfour Beatty PLC 13 June 2000 BALFOUR BEATTY PFI PRESENTATION/WORKSHOP Balfour Beatty, the international engineering, construction and services group, is today giving a presentation to stockbrokers and institutional investor analysts on the subject of its Investments and Developments business, focusing principally on the leading position which the group has achieved in the UK market for privately financed infrastructure. Since 1996, Balfour Beatty has committed to invest some £54 million of equity in 11 PFI schemes for which £1.4 billion of total capital has been raised. This has brought some £750 million of construction work and £650 million of service work to the group, much of it still in the forward order book. Three roads are already fully operational as is a waste-to-energy plant, together with the responsibility for operating and upgrading the power system for the London Underground. Two hospitals and a wastewater scheme are currently under construction. A further hospital, a group schools project and a rapid transit system are at preferred bidder stage. Balfour Beatty has pre-qualified for all three of the London Underground franchises under the governments' Public Private Partnership scheme.
