BALFOUR BEATTY WINS CONTRACTS IN THE POWER SECTOR TO A TOTAL VALUE OF
APPROXIMATELY £400 MILLION
==========================
Balfour Beatty plc, the international engineering, construction and services
group, announces today that its specialist power engineering arm, Balfour Beatty
Power Networks (BBPN), has won contracts to a total value of approximately £400
million in the UK and Australia.
Commenting today, Balfour Beatty Chief Executive, Ian Tyler, said:
'These major contract wins demonstrate Balfour Beatty's leading position in the
electricity transmission and distribution markets, both in the UK and overseas.'
The largest contract is for the development of the overhead transmission
infrastructure in Queensland for Powerlink Queensland, in joint venture with
United Group Infrastructure of Australia. The four-year contract covers works in
the southern area of Queensland and will be worth approximately £40 million per
annum.
In the UK, BBPN has been awarded a four-year extension to its existing contract
as External Service Provider to Central Networks, part of E.ON UK, which runs
the electricity distribution network in central England. Under this contract,
worth approximately £40 million per annum, BBPN will carry out overhead line and
cable works up to and including 33 kV.
BBPN has also been awarded three major overhead line refurbishment contracts by
National Grid to a total value of over £50 million. Two contracts are the
refurbishment of 100 km of 400 kV double circuit overhead transmission line in
East Anglia, with a third contract covering similar work in the South East.
Western Power Distribution has awarded BBPN a three-year term contract worth
approximately £25 million over three years with a possible extension by two
further one-year periods for the repair and maintenance work on the underground
distribution voltage network in South Wales.
