BALFOUR BEATTY SELECTED FOR STOKE-ON-TRENT CITY COUNCIL BUILDING SCHOOLS FOR THE FUTURE PROGRAMME
Balfour Beatty, the international engineering, construction, investment and services Group, announces today that it has been selected as one of Stoke-on-Trent City Council's two design and build partners for their £250 million Building Schools for the Future programme.
The contract involves the delivery of the City's major investment programme covering the building and refurbishment of the secondary and special schools throughout Stoke-on-Trent, including five new-build academies.
Commenting on this BSF contract, Balfour Beatty Chief Executive, Ian Tyler said:
'We are delighted to have been selected by Stoke-on-Trent City Council as one of their partners to provide world-class teaching and learning environments for all pupils, teachers and communities.
'This contract will create training and employment opportunities for both Balfour Beatty in Stoke and our well-established local supply chain.'
Work on the construction project is scheduled to commence in Autumn 2010.
Balfour Beatty is the construction partner in a number of Building Schools for the Future schemes in Hackney, Haringey, and Greenwich with a total value of over £220 million and is framework contractor providing construction services to both the £180 million scheme for Manchester City Council and the £100 million scheme in Liverpool.
Balfour Beatty also has PPP concessions in Southwark, Islington and Knowsley under the BSF Programme.
This contract is in addition to the 25-year PPP concession awarded in October 2000 for the re-development of over 100 schools for Stoke-on-Trent City Council.
