January-March 2001 Results
BBVA INCREASES 24.2% THE ATTRIBUTABLE PROFIT UP TO 553
MILLION EUROS (92,070 MILLION PESETAS)
* The profit sustains in recurrent earnings, with increases of two figures in
every relevant margin
* The Business Income reaches a historical quarterly high result, with 1,365
million euros
* BBVA America increases its profit significantly, in a year when a strong
boost is expected
* The policy of expenses control contributes toward placing the efficiency
ratio at 52.6% versus 53.3% for the year 2000
* The Group earmarked 650 million euros to write-down, plus two times the gains
* The business volume (lending and customer funds managed) grows 21% up to
451,000 million euros
* In the first quarter of 2001 there have been significant progress in the five
basic lines of the Project Cre@: New Banking Model, Latin America Expansion,
Growth in New Business, Active Business Management (Plan Optar) and
Management Capacities.
