Banco Santander announces that the Spanish National Commission for Securities
Markets has decided to suspend trading on Banco Santander shares from 9:00 to 
9:30 today, in view of the joint statement re. ABN AMRO which was distributed
earlier this morning. At 9:30 today trading will be resumed.
