Mr S G Russell notified the Company on 6 December 2000 that on 5 December
2000 he had purchased 420 ordinary shares in the Company at a price of 1943p
per share.

Following this transaction, Mr Russell has a total beneficial interest in
1,109 ordinary shares in Barclays PLC.
