NOTIFICATION OF INTEREST: COMPANIES ACT 1985 s.329
The independent trustee of the Barclays Group (ESAS) Employees' Benefit Trust,
(the 'ESAS trust') notified Barclays PLC on 10 July 2000 that they had
provided incorrect data in an earlier notification to Barclays PLC.
Consequently, the number of shares reported as being held by the ESAS trust
had been understated by 863 ordinary shares in the Notification of Interest
made by Barclays PLC on 29 June 2000.
The ESAS trust is a discretionary trust for the benefit of employees and
former employees (and their families) of Barclays Bank PLC and its
subsidiaries.
The independent trustee of the Barclays Group (PSP & ESOS) Employees' Benefit
Trust (the 'trust') notified Barclays PLC on 10 July 2000 that they had on 3
July 2000 released 5,657 ordinary shares in Barclays PLC to participants who
exercised their awards under the Barclays Group Performance Share Plan
('PSP'). The trust is a discretionary trust for the benefit of employees and
former employees (and their families) of Barclays Bank PLC and its
subsidiaries. None of the above transactions were in respect of awards made
to any director of Barclays PLC.
Following these transactions, the trustees of all the Barclays Group
employees' benefit trusts hold a total of 7,690,512 shares in Barclays PLC in
which the following directors of Barclays PLC have an interest as potential
beneficiaries: Sir Peter Middleton, Mr M W Barrett, Mr D P Allvey, Sir Andrew
Large, Mr C J Lendrum and Mr J S Varley.
