                     RESIGNATION OF NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Barclays PLC and Barclays Bank PLC today announce that Robert K Steel has
resigned as a non-executive Director of both companies with immediate effect.

Mr Steel's resignation follows confirmation of his appointment as Under
Secretary of the Treasury of the United States.
