NOTIFICATION OF INTEREST: COMPANIES ACT 1985 s.329
The independent trustee of the Barclays Group (PSP &
ESOS) Employees' Benefit Trust (the 'trust') notified the
Company on 13 September 1999 that, on 9 September 1999,
it released 5893 Barclays PLC ordinary shares to
participants who exercised their awards under the
Barclays Group Performance Share Plan ('PSP'). None of
the shares were released to a director of Barclays PLC.
The trust is a discretionary trust for the benefit of
employees and former employees (and, in each case, their
families) of Barclays Bank PLC and its subsidiaries.
Following these transactions, the trustee of all the
Barclays Group employees' benefit trusts holds a total of
9,130,048 shares in Barclays PLC in which the following
directors of Barclays PLC have an interest as potential
beneficiaries: Mr D P Allvey, Sir Andrew Large, Mr C J
Lendrum, Sir Peter Middleton, Mr O H J Stocken, and Mr J
S Varley.
