   Notification of directors' interests : Companies Act s329

Sir Peter Middleton and Mr C J Lendrum notified the Company on
2 December 1999 that on 1 December 1999 they each purchased 3
ordinary shares in Barclays PLC at a price of 1836p per share
as a result of the automatic reinvestment of dividends by
their PEP manager.

Following these transactions, Sir Peter Middleton has a
beneficial interest in 34,995 ordinary shares in Barclays PLC
and a non-beneficial interest in 17,000 ordinary shares in
Barclays PLC, and Mr C J Lendrum has a beneficial interest in
35,905 ordinary shares in Barclays PLC

In addition to the interests shown above, Sir Peter Middleton
and Mr C J Lendrum each has an interest as a potential
beneficiary, together with other Directors and senior
executives, in the total of  9,120,539 Barclays PLC ordinary
shares held by the Barclays Group employees' benefit trusts.
