   Notification of directors' interests : Companies Act s329

Mr P J Jarvis notified the Company on 1 November 1999 that on
26 October 1999, 629 ordinary shares in the Company had been purchased on his
behalf at a price of 1733p per share.  The shares are held in the name of
Zeban Nominees.  

Following this transaction, Mr Jarvis has a beneficial interest in 2686
ordinary shares in Barclays PLC.

In addition to the interest shown above, Mr Jarvis has an interest as a
potential beneficiary, together with other Directors and senior executives of
the Company, in the total of 9,166,449 Barclays PLC ordinary shares held by
the Barclays Group employees' benefit trusts.
