Notifications of directors' interests: Companies Act section 329
The Company was notified on 15 November 2000 that following the reinvestment
of cash in the single company PEPs held by Mr J M Stewart (a Director of
Barclays PLC) and Mrs S A Stewart (a connected person), Mr J M Stewart now has
a total beneficial interest in 341 ordinary shares of Barclays PLC. The
additional shares were bought at a price of 1988p per share.
Mr Stewart, together with other Directors and senior executives of Barclays
PLC and Barclays Bank PLC, has an interest as a potential beneficiary in
7,879,272 Barclays PLC ordinary shares held by the independent trustee of the
Barclays Group employees' benefit trusts. These are discretionary trusts
established for the benefit of Barclays Group employees and former employees
(and in each case their families) all of whom are potential beneficiaries.
As a participant in the Woolwich Sharesave Schemes Mr Stewart also has an
interest as a potential discretionary beneficiary in 474,306 Barclays PLC
ordinary shares held by the trustee of the Woolwich Qualifying Employee Share
Ownership Trust.
The Company was also notified on 15 November 2000 that Mrs E J Russell (a
connected person of Mr Stephen Russell, a Director of Barclays PLC) had a
beneficial interest in 591 ordinary shares of Barclays PLC. Mr Russell
therefore has a beneficial interest in a total of 689 ordinary shares in
Barclays PLC.
