   Notification of directors' interests : Companies Act s329

The Company was notified on 4 October 2000 by the
Administrators of the Dividend Reinvestment Plan (the 'Plan')
that on 3 October 2000 Mr Jarvis (a director of Barclays PLC)
received 19 ordinary shares in the Company by participating in the plan for
the 2000 interim dividend at a price of 1870.334p per share.  
Following this allotment, Mr Jarvis has a beneficial interest in 3,583
shares.
