G.K. Hester Appointed Executive Director

Barratt Developments PLC announce that with effect from 29th November, 1999
Mr. G.K. Hester has been appointed an Executive Director of the Company and
Regional Chairman of the Group's U.K. housebuilding operations in the West
Region.

Within the past five years Mr. Hester has held a directorship in Britannia
Group PLC but resigned from the appointment in April, 1996.

In connection with Mr. Hester's appointment no disclosures are required to be
made pursuant to the requirements of Paras. 6.F.2(b) to (g) of the Listing
Rules.

Mr. M. Norton, a Director of the Company and Regional Chairman of the Group's
U.K. housebuilding operations in the Northern Region, has indicated his desire
to take early retirement with effect from 31st December, 1999 and has given
notice of his intention to resign as a Director of the Company and from his
position as Regional Chairman of the Northern Region with effect from the
aforementioned date.
