                    AGM STATEMENT - FRIDAY 11 JANUARY 2002

At the Annual General Meeting of Bellway p.l.c. held at 12 noon in Newcastle
upon Tyne on Friday 11 January 2002, the Chairman, Mr H C Dawe made the
following statement.


        'I am pleased to report that the Group's current trading position
        continues to be strong and is in line with our expectations. Your
        Board anticipates another good set of results for the financial year
        to 31 July 2002 and remains confident that its enviable track record
        will continue.'


        'Bellway will be releasing its interim announcement for the half year
        to 31 January 2002 on Wednesday 10 April 2002.'
