                     APPOINTMENT OF NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Board of The Berkeley Group Holdings plc ('Berkeley'), the urban regenerator
and residential property developer, is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr
Michael Brynley Tanner as a Non-Executive Director with immediate effect.

Michael Tanner, aged 60, retired from George Wimpey UK at the end of December
2004 where he was Divisional Managing Director, South, a post he had held for
ten years.

Berkeley confirms that there is no other information to be disclosed pursuant to
Section 9.6.13 of the Listing Rules in relation to the appointment.

Roger Lewis, Chairman of Berkeley commented: 'I am delighted that Mike Tanner is
joining the Board of Berkeley. I am sure that we will benefit from his wealth of
experience and expertise stretching over thirty-four years in the building and
construction industry with Tarmac and George Wimpey and that he will make a most
