Notification of the Death of Gerry Nealon, Executive Chairman
It is with deep sadness that the board of Bezant announces that Gerry Nealon, Executive Chairman, passed away late on Friday 27 September 2013. Gerry was instrumental in progressing one of the industry's most cost effective exploration programmes. Under his Chairmanship, Bezant delineated one of the world's largest deposits of JORC Code standard copper-gold reserves and resources at its flagship Mankayan Project in the Philippines. The Company subsequently negotiated and entered into a major option agreement with Gold Fields Netherlands Services BV, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gold Fields Limited, in respect of the potential disposal of this asset which has already generated significant value for Bezant's shareholders with a return of capital of approximately £5.2 million completed in May 2013. His work and abilities have left the Company well positioned to build real equity value for shareholders going forwards.
Dr Evan Kirby, Non-Executive Director, will assume the role of Non-Executive Chairman on an interim basis with immediate effect.
Bernard Olivier, Chief Executive Officer of Bezant, commented:
"On behalf of everybody at Bezant, I would like to express our sincerest condolences to Gerry's family and friends. Gerry will be sorely missed by all at Bezant and I will personally miss his friendship. Gerry was an inspiring person with an utter focus and determination to build value in the Company. Our thoughts are with all of his family at this time. "
