BROKEN HILL PROPRIETARY COMPANY LIMITED 25 August 1999 BHP STAFFING AND ORGANISATIONAL CHANGES The Broken Hill Proprietary Company Limited (BHP) today announced a number of staffing and organisational changes. In BHP Minerals Mr Paul Jeans President BHP Hot Briquetted Iron (HBI) will retire from BHP at the end of November. Mr John Hannah President BHP Iron Ore will also retire at the end of November. He will be replaced as President BHP Iron Ore by Mr Graeme Hunt, currently Vice President Portfolio Restructuring Strategy. Mr Hunt will be based in Perth. Mr Bob Kirkby President BHP Steelmaking and Energy Materials, will also assume direct responsibility for HBI. Announcing the changes, Mr Ron McNeilly Executive Director and President BHP Minerals said that he wished to pay tribute to the contributions of Paul Jeans and John Hannah over long careers with BHP. ''Paul has used his wide engineering experience and interpersonal skills in Engineering, Steel, Services and more recently the Minerals business'', said Mr McNeilly. ''John has contributed significantly to the BHP Copper, Coal and Iron Ore businesses during periods of very strong growth and has used his deep knowledge of the mining industry to great effect'', said Mr McNeilly. Mr John Grubb, currently President BHP Minerals Zimbabwe will take up a new position in Melbourne oversighting efficiency improvement programs in all of BHP's Minerals operations and will report to Mr Marcus Randolph President BHP Minerals Development. The Company also announced that Mr Brad Mills, will assume the role of Vice President and Chief Strategic Officer and become a member of the Policy Committee. In order to better co-ordinate the strategy of the Company, Mr Tom Brown Vice President Human Resources, Dr John Burgess Vice President Safety, Environment and Research, and Mr Graham Evans Vice President External Affairs, will report to Brad Mills.
