Quarterly Trading Update
Big Yellow Group Plc, the self storage company, has today
provided the following update on trading for the quarter ending
31 December 2001.
* Turnover for the quarter was £2.3 million
- up 15% from £2.0 million for the quarter to 30 September
2001
- up 92% from £1.2 million for the same quarter last year
* Annualised revenue is now £9.6 million
- up 9% from £8.8m at 30 September 2001
- up 100% from £4.8m at the same time last year
* 462,000 sq ft occupied at the quarter end
- up 15% from 401,000 sq ft at 30 September 2001
- up 97% from 235,000 sq ft at the same time last year
* The number of customers increased by 13% to 6,800 compared
to 6,000 at 30 September 2001 and 3,300 at 31 December 2000, up
106%
* Merchandise, insurance and other sales were 11.7% of
storage income for the quarter to 31 December 2001 (quarter to
30 September 2001: 14.5% and quarter to 31 December 2000: 9.7%)
* There are 19 stores currently open with a further 8 stores
committed providing 1.6 million sq.ft. of storage space when
completed; Battersea and Hounslow have opened since the Interim
Results announcement on 5 November 2001
Nicholas Vetch, Chief Executive, commented:
'The growth in trading activity for the final quarter of 2001
has been in line with that seen for the same quarter last year
and, consequently, we believe the seasonal upturn which we have
experienced in previous years will be seen over the next few
weeks.
'As indicated at the time of our Interim Results, we continue to
believe that the self storage sector provides significant
prospects for growth.'
