Launch of Osprey Video Codec
Forbidden Technologies is pleased to announcethe launch of its Osprey video codec today at IBC2009. Forbidden believes that FORscene with Osprey is the first practical implementation of an end-to-end browser-based broadcast quality video editing service over the public Internet.
The Osprey upgrade is the latest in a sequence of Forbidden's video codecs designed specifically for editing over the public Internet. Osprey supports loss-free video compression: for the first time, FORscene users can see broadcast quality video as they are editing. Broadcasters can use the video output from FORscene directly for transmission.
The Osprey design also allows videos to be edited at proxy quality, as has been the case with FORscene's other codecs. In this case, the upgrade to broadcast quality (where required) is efficiently encoded, minimising Internet traffic and delay.
Video is one of the most challenging media formats to populate the Web. In combination with the three product launches announced recently (SDI support, FORscene Server and FORscene HD), Osprey transforms the state-of-the-art in Internet software.
The IBC2009 exhibition, taking place in Amsterdam, starts today and runs until the 15th of September. Forbidden Technologies plc will be exhibiting at IBC2009 on stand 7.A08.
Stephen Streater, CEO of Forbidden Technologies, said:
'The Web has come of age. Production companies can now directly manipulate broadcast quality video over the public Internet on standard machines. It is becoming increasingly clear that, over time, Web based video tools will come to dominate the market for all forms of professional video production.'
'We look forward to welcoming visitors to the Forbidden Stand at IBC2009.'
