BRITISH PORTFOLIO TRUST PLC

British Portfolio Trust plc announces the appointment of Nicholas Gold as a non-executive director of the Company with effect from 17th December 2008.  

Mr Gold has more than 22 years of senior experience in investment banking, most recently as Managing Director responsible for Closed End fund corporate finance at ING Bank N.V. in London.  Mr Gold is a qualified Chartered Accountant and a solicitor.  He is on the boards of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) and the Prince's Foundation for Integrated Health.

In connection with this appointment the Company confirms that there are no details to be disclosed as otherwise required by Listing Rule 9.6.13R.
