British Portfolio Trust plc announces that on 26th September 2002 it
re-purchased, for cancellation, 14,520 Ordinary 1p Shares (representing 0.04% of
the issued Ordinary capital), at a price of 96.5p per Ordinary Share.

Settlement and cancellation of the re-purchased 14,520 Ordinary Shares is due on
1st October 2002 when the issued share capital of the Trust will fall to
41,905,521 Ordinary 1p Shares.
