British Portfolio Trust plc announces that on 15th August 2003 it re-purchased,
for cancellation, 71,000 ordinary shares at 110.75p per share (representing
0.15% of the issued ordinary capital).

Settlement and cancellation of the re-purchased 71,000 Ordinary Shares is due on
20th August 2003 when the issued share capital of the Trust will fall to
47,503,821 Ordinary 1p Shares.
