The following replaces the 'Transaction In Own Shares' announcement released on
Friday 4 January 2008 under RNS 1404L, which incorrectly stated a treasury buy
back rather than a buy back for cancellation.  The full amended text appears
below.



British Portfolio Trust plc announces that on 4 January 2008 it purchased, for
cancellation, 5,810 Ordinary 1p Shares (representing 0.01% of the issued
Ordinary Capital), at a price of 181p per Ordinary Share.

Settlement of the purchased 5,810 Ordinary Shares is due on 9 January 2008.

Following the purchase and cancellation of the 5,810 Ordinary Shares, the total
number of Treasury shares held by the Company will be 2,241,164. The issued
share capital of the Company, less the total number of Ordinary Shares held in
Treasury, will be 41,347,800 Ordinary 1p Shares.
