The following replaces the 'Transaction In Own Shares' announcement released on Wednesday 16 September 2009 under RNS 1858Z, which incorrectly stated the number of shares bought back. The full amended text appears below.

British Portfolio Trust plc announces that on 16 September 2009 it purchased, for cancellation, 89,000 Ordinary 1p Shares (representing 0.25% of the issued Ordinary Capital), at a price of 120p per Ordinary Share.

Settlement of the purchased 89,000 Ordinary Shares is due on 21 September 2009.

Following the purchase and cancellation of the 89,000 Ordinary Shares, the total number of Treasury shares held by the Company will be 3,828,664. The issued share capital of the Company, less the total number of Ordinary Shares held in Treasury, will be 34,930,820 Ordinary 1p Shares.
