British Portfolio Trust plc announces that on 20 May 2008 it purchased, for cancellation, 35,000 Ordinary 1p Shares (representing 0.09% of the issued Ordinary Capital), at a price of 173p per Ordinary Share.

Settlement of the purchased 35,000 Ordinary Shares is due on 23 May 2008.

Following the purchase and cancellation of the 35,000 Ordinary Shares, the total number of Treasury shares held by the Company will be 3,828,664. The issued share capital of the Company, less the total number of Ordinary Shares held in Treasury, will be 39,725,300 Ordinary 1p Shares.
