On 11 June 2004, 3i Smaller Quoted Companies Trust plc ("the Company") was
notified by HSBC Bank plc that, as at close of business on 9 June 2004:
     
1    HSBC Bank plc no longer had a notifiable interest in the ordinary shares of 
     25p each in the issued share capital of the Company; and

2    HSBC Holdings plc, as HSBC Bank plc's parent company, no longer had a 
     notifiable interest, by virtue of section 203 of the Companies Act 1985, in 
     the above shares.
