Director Shareholding

                  BLOOMSBURY PUBLISHING PLC (the 'Company')

                            DIRECTOR SHAREHOLDING

The Company was today informed that Mr J N Newton and Ms E N Calder, directors
of the Company, have today each exercised options over 19,729 ordinary shares
of 5p each ('Ordinary Shares') pursuant to the 1994 Unapproved Executive Share
Option Scheme at an exercise price of 83p per share.

The Company was also today informed that Mr Newton and Ms Calder have today
each sold 19,729 Ordinary Shares at £8.20.

Following these transactions, Mr Newton's and Ms Calder's beneficial interests
in the Company's issued ordinary share capital are unchanged.
