Appointment of Directors
Bloomsbury Publishing Plc ('Bloomsbury' or the 'Company') is pleased to announce
two board appointments.
Sarah Odedina, currently Editorial Director for children's books, has been
appointed as Executive Director of Bloomsbury with immediate effect. Sarah began
her publishing career working for a literary agency in 1988 before moving to
Penguin where she worked for several years in the adult rights department. She
then joined the Watts Publishing Group as Group Rights Director selling world
rights in children's titles. In January 1997 Sarah Odedina joined Bloomsbury as
Editorial Director for the children's list and since then has headed up a list
publishing Harry Potter, Holes, Witch Child, Five Little Fiends and other award
winning best selling children's books. She will continue with her current
responsibilities.
Mrs. Odedina has not been a director of any publicly quoted company at any time
in the last five years. Mrs. Odedina also has no disclosures to make regarding
the matters described in paragraph 6.F.2 (b) to (g) inclusive of the Listing
Rules.
The Company is also pleased to announce that Michael Mayer, President of
Berkeley International Capital Corporation, a prominent venture capital firm in
San Francisco, has been appointed as a non-executive director of Bloomsbury with
immediate effect. He has worked on a large number of strategic acquisition
transactions. Mr. Mayer was actively involved in the early development of AOL
and has also been involved with many venture capital companies. His considerable
experience of the American market will be invaluable as the company expands its
operation in the United States.
Mr. Mayer has not been a director of any publicly quoted company at any time in
the last five years. Mr. Mayer has no disclosures to make regarding the matters
described in paragraph 6.F.2 (b) to (g) inclusive of the Listing Rules.
Chairman Nigel Newton said,
'We are delighted to be strengthening the Board with the appointment of Sarah
Odedina and Michael Mayer. Both children's publishing and US expansion are key
areas of development for Bloomsbury going forward. Their input at board level
will be invaluable in achieving our strategic goals.'
