Bloomsbury Publishing PLC ('the Company')

The Company was advised on 29 July 2002, in accordance with Part IV Companies
Act 1985 ('the Act'), that HSBC Investment Bank plc, as at close of business on
25 July 2002, was interested in 769,882 ordinary shares of the Company
representing 4.5% of its issued ordinary share capital. Of these interests,
57,000 were interests of a kind described in S.208(5) of the Act.

HSBC Investment Bank plc further notified the Company that as at close of
business on 26 July 2002, it no longer had a notifiable interest in the shares.
