Drilling Report

BP Amoco PLC 10 May 2000 BP AMOCO CONFIRMS MAJOR GAS FIND OFFSHORE TRINIDAD BP Amoco announced the discovery of some 2 trillion cubic feet of natural gas off the south east coast of Trinidad, the country's first deep water find. This is BP Amoco's third major gas find offshore Trinidad in the past three years. The discovery was made by the 'Manakin 1' exploration well in block 5b, located 135 miles east of Galeota Point in 730 feet water depth on a large structure that straddles the Trinidad-Venezuela median line. The well encountered new gas reservoirs in addition to confirming shallow gas discovered in Venezuelan waters by Lagoven in their 'Coquina 1' exploration well drilled in 1983. Larry Tiezzi, President of the BP Amoco Trinidad Exploration Business Unit said: 'This new find reinforces the industry's assessment of significant gas potential in this basin and it augurs well for future development from which Trinidad and Tobago will benefit enormously. Trinidad & Tobago is a world class hydrocarbon province and this well result adds another discovery to a long list of successes underpinning our strategy to focus significant resources in this region. We recently agreed a two-train LNG expansion in Trinidad which will treble production to nine million tonnes a year by 2003, at TT$7,000 million the largest single investment in the Caribbean.' Notes to Editors: 1.Manakin was the second of a four well programme in 2000 and began drilling operations on January 28 with the Ocean America semi-submersible drilling rig. The well, which was drilled to a depth of 11,680 feet, encountered seven hydrocarbon bearing zones, with a net pay thickness of 300 feet. A drill stem test conducted in one pay sand flowed a maximum of 25 million cubic feet a day on a 40/64-inch choke. The well was temporarily plugged and abandoned on April 5, 2000. Manakin was the last of three commitment wells drilled in block 5b. 2. Amoco Trinidad Gas B.V. is a wholly owned subsidiary of BP Amoco p.l.c. and the operator of licence 5b with 70 per cent equity. Licence partner Repsol Exploration Tobago S.A. has the remaining 30 per cent and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Repsol YPF.
