Drilling Report

BP Amoco PLC 22 November 2000 BP'S FOURTH OPERATED OIL DISCOVERY IN ANGOLA BP and Shell announced today the 'Paladio' oil discovery offshore Angola. This is the fourth exploration well BP has drilled in Block 18 and the fourth successive discovery. The well was tested at 3,980 barrels a day (b/d) of 31 degrees API oil. Although further work will be needed to evaluate the full extent of Paladio, the preliminary results indicate the possibility of a significant oil accumulation. Block 18 and its operatorship was awarded in 1996 by Sonangol (Angola's State Oil Company) to Amoco Angola B.V. (a wholly-owned subsidiary of BP) with 50 per cent equity and to Shell Development Angola B.V. with 50 per cent equity. Paladio was drilled by the deepwater drillship Pride Angola in 1,233 metres water depth some 175 kilometres off the coast. Paladio is 15 kilometres east of the Galio discovery and 10 kilometres north west of the Plutonio discovery. The Pride Angola spudded a fifth Block 18 well, Cromio-1, on September 15, seven kilometres east of Galio, after which she is expected to drill a sixth well on the same block. Of the previous discoveries, two wells were drilled in 1999 and the third earlier in 2000. The Platina discovery tested oil at 6,500 b/d in 1,400 metres water depth in May, 1999. The Plutonio discovery tested oil at 5,700 b/d in 1,362 metres water depth in July, 1999. The Galio discovery tested oil at 4,770 b/d in 1,238 metres water depth in January, 2000. Notes to editors: In December 1999, BP and the United States Agency for International Development donated $7 million in a first ever public-private sector partnership initiative to help alleviate humanitarian suffering across central Angola, providing more than 15,000 tonnes of food aid and logistical assistance to populations around the war-ravaged cities of Huambo and Kuito. BP is the founding sponsor of the British-Angola Forum, a body which brings together organisations, companies and individuals in the United Kingdom concerned with Angola and its regional and international context under the auspices of Chatham House. BP works with a number of world renowned NGOs, including the Angolan Red Cross and Norwegian People's Aid, to run a portfolio of community projects in the areas of health, education, skills training and de-mining. The company's range of community-support initiatives includes a centre for homeless boys in Luanda, an orphanage in Lubango, and a series of Red Cross health posts in Benguela Province, dispensing medical aid and services to thousands of people.
