US Competition Clearance

                          US competition clearance

The  US  Federal  Trade  Commission has confirmed that the  recommended  Pre-
Conditional Offer by BP Amoco for Burmah Castrol announced on 14  March  2000
(the  'Transaction') has been granted early termination under the Hart-Scott-
Rodino Act.  This means the Transaction has cleared United States competition
authorities.

The  Transaction is still subject to clearance by the European Commission and
other regulatory authorities.
