NOTIFICATION OF TRANSACTIONS BY DIRECTORS, PERSONS DISCHARGING MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITY OR CONNECTED PERSONS

Notification made in accordance with Disclosure Rule 3.1.4R(1)(a) of the Disclosure and Transparency Rules.

British American Tobacco p.l.c. (the "Company") was notified on 13 August 2008 that, on 11 August 2008, Mr M.M. Cobben, a person discharging managerial responsibility, had exercised 19,945 options over British American Tobacco p.l.c. 25p ordinary shares (the "Shares") granted under the British American Tobacco Share Option Scheme.  The options were exercised by Mr Cobben at an exercise price of £4.342 per share.

The Company was also notified on 13 August 2008 that, on 12 August 2008, he sold 4,731 Shares at a price of £18.3811 per Share to cover the exercise price and commission.

Following the above transactions, Mr Cobben has a total beneficial and family interest of 130,444 (including 15,205 Deferred Shares).
