Notification made in accordance with Section 324 (as extended by Section 328) of
the Companies Act 1985 and Disclosure Rule 3.1.4R (1) (a) of the Disclosure
Rules sourcebook.



On 14 November 2006, British American Tobacco p.l.c. ("the Company") was
notified by Mr Anthony Ruys, a Non-Executive Director of the Company, that on 9
November 2006 he had purchased (on the London Stock Exchange) 3,000 Ordinary
Shares of 25p in the Company ("the Shares") at a price of 1428p per Share. The
Shares are registered in the name of Mr Anthony Ruys. Following this
transaction, Mr Ruys has a total beneficial and family interest in 3,000 Shares.
