Notification made in accordance with Section 324 (as extended by Section 328) of
the Companies Act 1985 and Disclosure Rule 3.1.4R(1)(a) of the Disclosure Rules

The independent Trustee of the British American Tobacco Group Employee Trust
notified the Company on 21 March 2006 that it had on 20 March 2006 released
1,179,568 British American Tobacco p.l.c. 25p ordinary shares (the "Shares") to
participants in the British American Tobacco Long Term Incentive Plan.  Of these
Shares, a total of 360,645 Shares were released to the following executive
directors and other persons discharging managerial responsibility (together "the
Participants") as follows:
